Lantmännen Unibake has acquired Boboli Benelux B.V., marking the Swedish agricultural cooperative's entry into the Netherlands bakery market. The Dutch company, which recorded net sales of approximately €50 million in 2024, specialises in Mediterranean flatbreads, focaccias, pizzas and pizza crusts.
The acquisition brings Lantmännen Unibake its first Netherlands production facility through Boboli Benelux's state-of-the-art bakery in Bunschoten. The site employs around 200 people and operates across both bake-off and chilled technologies, serving established positions in the Benelux region, UK and Germany.
Market positioning and capacity expansion
Boboli Benelux has operated in the European savoury bakery market for over 25 years, developing customer solutions for retailers, foodservice operators and industrial clients. The company's product range includes sharing breads, pizzas, focaccias and speciality breads distributed through retail, convenience and foodservice channels.
For Lantmännen Unibake, the transaction represents expansion into the fast-growing European bake-off market segment. The Copenhagen-headquartered group currently operates bakeries across multiple countries, employs approximately 6,000 people and distributes products to over 60 markets through brands including Schulstad, Bonjour, Americana and Vaasan.
Technology and production capabilities
The Bunschoten facility brings Lantmännen Unibake additional capacity in savoury products, particularly in Mediterranean-style flatbreads. Boboli Benelux's expertise spans both bake-off and chilled technologies, providing flexibility for different market requirements and distribution channels.
Recent investments in the Dutch operation have supported the company's growth trajectory, positioning it as what Lantmännen Unibake describes as a cornerstone for further savoury segment expansion.
Cooperative structure and ownership
As part of the farmer-owned Lantmännen Group, the acquisition fits within the broader cooperative's strategy to expand established businesses. Lantmännen is owned by 17,000 Swedish farmers and reports annual turnover of SEK 70 billion across agriculture, machinery, bioenergy and food products.
The transaction was disclosed under EU Market Abuse Regulation requirements on 1st September 2025, with completion terms not disclosed in the announcement.
The acquisition positions Lantmännen Unibake to compete more directly in the European savoury bakery market, where demand for bake-off products continues to grow across retail and foodservice sectors.
