Puratos, a supplier of bakery, patisserie and chocolate ingredients, has announced plans to expand its facility in Buckingham, UK, focusing on the production of fillings, patisserie glazes and sourdough.
The expansion will create 37 new jobs and will allow Puratos to honour its commitment to sourcing in the local community. The company will move the production of fillings and sourdough from its Simonswood site to a new consolidated site, where Puratos has been making patisserie, bakery mixes and improvers for over 30 years. As part of the move, Puratos will increase its capacity for fillings and add the capability to make patisserie glazes.
This development also advances Puratos’ sustainability strategy in the UK, with plans to significantly reduce plastic packaging for its fillings. This is in line with the company’s commitment to reduce the amount of single-use plastic in its operations and a goal to become carbon-neutral by 2030.
Julia Darvill, managing director at Puratos UK & Ireland, said: “The UK is a large and growing market for sweet baked goods, driven by consumer desire for affordable treats and healthier indulgence. Alongside the rising demand for fewer food miles and increased supply chain transparency, the Buckingham expansion is an important step in meeting the needs of our customers and British consumers."
Darvill added that with the company's technical specialists in one location, it will be better placed to "address customers’ challenges, bring bakery creativity to life and help them succeed in today’s exciting but challenging market".
The new production lines at Buckingham are due to come online in November 2025. The supply of all Puratos UK ingredients remains unaffected during this time.
