Spanish bakery giant Monbake has appointed Borja Lomba Sorrondegui as its new chief executive officer, marking a significant leadership transition for one of Iberia's most prominent baking enterprises.
Lomba, who brings over a decade of experience from British consumer goods company Reckitt, will take the helm from Aurelio Antuna, who has guided the company since 2018. Antuna will transition to the role of chairman, maintaining his involvement in the company's strategic direction.
A Strategic Succession
The appointment represents a carefully planned succession at Monbake, which has established itself as a major player in the European baking sector. With operations spanning more than 30 countries, the company has built a reputation for quality manufacturing and innovative product development.
Lomba's background at Reckitt, where he most recently served as director-general for Iberian operations, provides him with extensive experience in managing large-scale consumer goods operations across international markets. This expertise will prove valuable as Monbake continues to expand its European and global footprint.
Growth Trajectory
Under its current private equity ownership by CVC Capital Partners, Monbake has been actively pursuing growth opportunities. The company has made strategic acquisitions over the past year, including Galician baker IPASA and Murcia-based pizza dough specialist La Nina del Sur, demonstrating its commitment to expanding market presence.
With over 2,000 employees across 10 manufacturing facilities and more than 230 retail locations, Monbake has built substantial scale in the Spanish market whilst maintaining its focus on quality and innovation.
