The global market for additive-free butter powders will grow from USD 903 million in 2026 to USD 1,896.0 million in 2036, growing at 7.7% CAGR across the forecast period, according to Fact.MR
Bakery accounts for the largest share of demand at 36%, which reflects how widely butter flavour features in cakes, biscuits, pastries and dry mixes. Sweet cream butter powder leads on product type with 34% of the segment and below-40% fat formulations hold 29% of the fat content segment, useful for premix work where headroom for other dry ingredients matters.
The additive-free label positioning segment holds 31% share. Food manufacturers are scrutinising ingredient lists and the appeal of a familiar, shorter declaration is part of what is pulling this category along.
Shambhu Nath Jha, principal consultant at Fact.MR, put it plainly:
"The main test for additive-free butter powder is simple: can a short ingredient list still give the butter taste and process behaviour that food makers need? Demand is likely to favour powders with steady batch results and simple records. Suppliers should pair dairy-fat know-how with practical support for bakery, savoury, and prepared-food uses."
Where growth is fastest
China leads the five profiled countries at 9.2% CAGR. Domestic milk production reached 40.91 million tonnes in 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, and the report connects that expanding dairy supply to broader uptake of dry dairy ingredients in food production.
Japan follows at 8.1% CAGR. Its Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries set the fiscal-2025 butter import quota at 8,000 to approximately 10,000 tonnes, with managed imports supporting availability for food manufacturers.
The US and France both sit at 7.7% CAGR, though the underlying picture differs. US butter production reached approximately 186 million pounds in October 2025 (USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service). France produced 232,705 tonnes through July 2026, per Agreste data published in September 2026. Germany comes in at 7.5% CAGR, supported by production of approximately 518,100 tonnes of butter, milk-fat products and dairy spread-fat products in 2025, according to the Federal Information Centre for Agriculture.
The report also notes that food manufacturing accounted for 22.9% of total UK manufacturers' product sales in 2025, per the Office for National Statistics.
